Ephrata 6, Othello 2

OTHELLO — Ephrata set up a two-way tie for third place in the Central Washington Athletic Conference after a 6-2 win against Othello.

The Tigers and Huskies both sit at 5-2 in the league.

“We played very good offensively,” Ephrata head coach Gary Klepec said.

Nikola Brzezny scored twice and Renessa Cole added a “beautiful header goal.” Anna Raine, Lanny Elliott and Lynette Sanchez also scored for Ephrata.

Othello received goals from Hailee Guzman and Janelly Verduzco.

KITTITAS — Royal was swept in a non-league match with Kittitas 25-7, 25-10, 25-13.

Warden 3, Royal 2

ROYAL CITY — Warden won its third consecutive five-set match, defeating Royal 20-25, 25-21, 21-25, 25-20, 20-18.

Kayla Golladay and Kiana Rios totaled 14 and 10 kills, respectively. The Rios’ — Kiana and Jlynn — held down the back line with 32 and 30 digs, respectively.

The Cougars fell behind 12-6 in the fifth set before going on a six-point run to tie at 12. Royal had an opportunity to win the match, but a show of sportsmanship allowed Warden a chance to win.

“Royal was ahead 18-17 in Game 5. Warden spiked the ball and was touched by a Royal player on the block but was not called by the officials,” Warden head coach Dennis Treat said. “This would have given Royal the win, but Royal’s head coach graciously asked the officials for a play-over and it was granted by the officials. It was a very classy act on the part of the Royal coach.”

ROYAL CITY — Warden was able to outlast Royal in a shootout 1-0 to remain in second place in the South Central Athletic Conference East.

Warden made four out of its five attempts in the shootout; Royal hit three. Brecka Erdmann, Aaliyah Escamilla, Arely Rangel and Kassandra Rodriguez made their penalties.

Othello 5, Quincy 3

QUINCY — Quincy was unable to dig itself out of a 4-0 hole and lost to Othello 5-3.

The win propelled Othello (5-1) into second place in the Central Washington Athletic Conference; Quincy (3-3) dropped to sixth.

Hailee Guzman scored four out of the Huskies’ five goals, including three straight from the 10th minute until the 45th. Gracie Sorenson opened the scoring for Othello in the ninth minute.

Quincy’s Emily Wurl had a hat trick of her own in the loss.

Warden 4, Mabton 0

WARDEN ­— Warden kept up the pace in the South Central Athletic Conference East with a shutout victory against Mabton 4-0.

The one-loss Cougars could still win the SCAC East with five games left to play.

Aaliyah Escamilla, Jocelyn Chagoya, Arely Rangel and Grace Richins scored one goal each.
