OTHELLO — The city of Othello has reapplied for a permit to discharge water from the municipal wastewater treatment plant into Owl Creek. The wastewater treatment plant currently discharges 7.5 million gallons of water per day. For the permit to be issued, treated wastewater must meet the requirements of the Washington State Water Pollution Control Act and other applicable regulations.

The Department of Ecology has drafted a permit allowing the city to continue to discharge wastewater within specified limits and conditions to control pollution.

Public comment is being sought by the Department of Ecology on the permit. Comments can be made online at ecology.wa.gov/othellocomments until July 13. Comments can also be mailed to Diana Washington, Water Quality Program, Department of Ecology, 4601 N. Monroe St., Spokane, WA 99205. More information about the permit can be found on the Department of Ecology website.
