Othello School District renews superintendent contract
Staff Report | June 23, 2020 9:40 PM
OTHELLO — The contract of Othello School District Superintendent Chris Hurst has been extended through 2023.
Othello School Board members approved the contract at the June 22 board meeting. The vote was 5-0.
The base salary will be $182,500. That includes a $25,000 signing bonus that he received for the contract renewal. For 2020-21 the signing bonus was treated as part of the base salary.
The contract puts Hurst toward the low end of salaries for superintendents of districts of a similar size to Othello, according to a list of superintendent salaries given to board members. The superintendents in the East Valley (Spokane) and White River school districts make less, but superintendents in Sedro-Woolley, Shelton, Ferndale, Enumclaw, Stanwood-Camano Island and Mercer Island make more. The salary information was compiled from publicly available records by district staff and included in the packet for board members and the public.
Among schools in Central Washington, Hurst will make less than the superintendents in Moses Lake and Richland.
