CBHA makes donation to Mattawa for park improvements
MATTAWA — The city of Mattawa has received a $5,000 donation from Columbia Basin Health Association (CBHA) for improving the city’s park.
“We’re shocked,” said Juan Ledezma, Mattawa public works director. “It’s good that it came through at this time. With the COVID-19 epidemic, we have limited resources for the community.”
CBHA donated the money that had previously been raised through its annual 5K Color Run, held in Othello each year. It also donated money to the cities of Othello and Connell.
“They want to help the communities they serve,” Ledezma said.
While the city of Mattawa doesn’t currently have specific plans for how the money will be used, it could be used for the improvement of the park on items such as playground equipment, water fountains, trash cans, the library area or new benches for the skate park.
“They have a preference for how we use the money, “ Ledezma said. “They target the well-being of children.”
At this point, Ledezma is getting an idea of the costs associated with different park projects.
“We want to maximize our usage for it (the donation),” Ledezma said.
